Fish otoliths are layered combinations of calcium carbonate and a gelatinous matrix, and are often used as a determinant of age. Studies using light microscopy require grinding to achieve a planar and transparent surface. This paper describes the use of Aremco Crystalbond™ 509 to bond otoliths to microscope slides in preparation for grinding the surface.
